He almost bought a Challenger: part 3 (final)

And thus our epic saga of ‘The Cheat’ comes to a close with – as you guessed – success.  Here’s the skinny…

NOTE3 years later, a hard reality was discovered. This post was published April of 2011, and on or around December of 2014, after chewing through 6 front wheel bearings, it was found that the spindle / knuckle lift is only viable if a wheel spacer is used to compensate for the pitch angle when turning the wheels. Basically, every vehicle “leans” to one side or the other when you turn. That’s by design – we stress DESIGN. It’s designed so that a center of gravity is maintained making a straight (plum) line down, such that all of the stress is centered / born by the wheel bearing in it’s milled knotch within the knuckle. When you install a spindle lift like this, and you don’t account for the shifted center of gravity during a turn, then you chew up wheel bearings like crazy. Basically, I’d have to measure it, or pull up a CAD drawing, but the skinny is that a 2 inch wheel-spacer (or rims with 2-inch outboard offset) would have been necessary to bring the truck back into compliance. This gets chocked up there with “Live and Learn”.
